17022917-17022917-piece-of-dark-chocolate-cakeChocolate fudge layer cake… guaranteed to be a crowd pleaser!

You got the recipe from an expert chef, invested in all of the gourmet ingredients, grease the pan, preheat the oven, mix up the batter and place the cake in the oven to bake…350 for 45 minutes.

20 minutes into baking you take a peek!

The cake has not risen. You panic and in disgust, yank the cake from the oven and toss it in the trash…ranting “Well, I’m never trying that recipe again!” “What a waste of time and money….all of those fancy ingredients. The cookbook rated this recipe as 5 stars…but the cake never even rose.”

Before you grab your car keys and head off to buy an entirely different kind of dessert…perhaps Ice cream or fruit, that requires no baking…take a minute to think about why the cake did not rise.

You had all the right ingredients, and mixed it up exactly according to the directions…but you didn’t allow the cke enough time to bake and rise to perfection.

I have a few clients who approach marketing in the manner. They have no set plan… they jump from one idea to another and when something does not show immediate results declaring it a failure, a waste of time and money! They vow NEVER to try that again…and move on to try something different.

Now, I am not suggesting that anyone throw  away money on marketing efforts that are just not working… However, Marketing is a lot like cooking.  You determine what the end result needs to be (in this case a cake), gather the ingredients, mix them together in the quantities required, and then allow them to cook to their full potential.

In marketing and cooking… patience can be the key to success. Have a recipe (plan)…stick to it…give it time to fully “bake” and enjoy your success.
